A Tribute to All Who Labor

It is Labor Day weekend!

In honor of the holiday and in tribute to your contributions and achievements … Happy Labor Day!
It is the time of year when kids go back to school, summer comes to an end, the Fall season is just around the corner, and harvest is in full swing.

For many who want to work, it will not be a happy time of year, as there just aren’t enough jobs for all those who want them.

I reported previously that there are approximately 120 million people searching for a job, a new job, a second job, or their first full-time post college graduation job … yet our economy will only be able to generate 2 million jobs this year.

So … why can’t the economy generate sufficient jobs for all these that desire to work? And how did this take place?

In an effort to learn from history, it can be worth taking a moment on this holiday weekend to think about what has changed, explain how we got into this scenario, and discuss what we can anticipate going forward.

As we begin, stop for a moment and ask yourself, "can you recall when you noticed the world had changed?"

Let me share with you a little story that has absolutely nothing and yet everything to do with the future of our world and how you fit into it.

In 1917 the United States faced a huge challenge. We had been working hard to compete in the industrialized economy and there was a shortage.

It was not a shortage of oil or coal or other all-natural sources but a shortage of workers; the physically obedient persons who would be factory workers.

The solution to this financial dilemma … and it was an experiment of sorts for the reason that it had not been done previously, was mandatory public school.

Sadly, the initial objective from the public school program in the United states was not to inspire young children or generate scholars; nor was it designed for dreamers, or individuals who color outdoors of your lines, or break the rules and challenge the status quo.

The public college program from the early 1900s was invented to create a nation filled with adults who would obediently do their job inside the factory assembly line.

It was to teach little ones to fit in by sitting in straight rows and organize their day using a series of ringing bells as these had been the skills they would require so as to join the labor force. And, it was to punish people that did not conform.

Intentional or not, this method of turning childhood dreamers into workers was an investment inside the nation’s financial future. And it worked!

This led to quite a few generations of productive fully employed workers. Nevertheless it isn’t functioning anymore.

Why? Our economy has changed. We don’t reside in an industrialized economy any longer. We reside within a connected economy.

At this time you'll find much more folks on Facebook than there have been on the planet 200 years ago.

Technologies has made it feasible for us to connect with people and suggestions from anywhere within the planet instantaneously.

And as a result our economies have expanded from localized towns and communities to the entire world.

We've got globalized trade in practically just about every way probable.

Inside the past, the obedient who did as they had been told, have been men and women who had been rewarded for operating tough and putting their dreams aside so as to toe the line.

They have been provided nicely paying jobs and long-term careers. They had been assured pensions, added benefits, and also the guarantee they would generally be taken care of.

And they had been.

But that promise is gone for many of us these days.

Even when you had been to possess a white-collar job nowadays, the majority with the white-collar workers are still functioning inside a factory.

Instead of operating a sewing machine, or welding a widget, they now push pencils, or type on keyboards, or method paperwork.

The perform continues to be factory operate since the complete focus with the day is spent on rising productivity; and this leaves tiny space for creativity and spontaneity or individuality.

The educated hard-working masses are nonetheless performing what they are told however they are no longer receiving what they deserve.

Even if you now do everything you are told … graduate from high school, go to college, get a degree, work really hard in what ever job you can obtain, for those who can get a job, you aren't guaranteed anything.

Companies are being forced to change, or die, right now.

Layoffs come about significantly more often than jobs seem and also the highest paying jobs are disappearing or heading overseas at an alarming rate.

Should you have a job where your boss tells you specifically what to complete, they may always obtain an individual more affordable than you to do it.

Did you understand the typical length of a job now is 4.5 years. Contrast that using the 1960s when it was 40 years.

The connected economy rewards a unique group of men and women. It rewards people today who see issues differently; those who don't conform.

They may be men and women who're constantly mastering; they have education and develop capabilities in a number of locations; they're dreamers, and connectors; they've suggestions that nobody else has!!

Men and women that are prepared to perform challenging but realize that the old way of carrying out factors is broken

The connected economy rewards you for not being a cog in the wheel of life … but for standing up and reaching out and connecting.

The connected economy rewards the connectors!! Irrespective of whether it is connecting someone to a person or even a business enterprise to a business, or a business to a product or perhaps a item to someone

Those who discover tips on how to connect would be the ones who will thrive and accel inside a connected economy

That is certainly how the world has changed. It is not about to change; it already has! Things are unique now and they may be not going back towards the way they used to become.

So, now you know that as a result of advances in technology, globalization, as well as a bulge in our population comprised of baby boomers, we are going to never ever produce enough jobs to meet the demand for all those that would like to function.

The new Internet Economy requires us to transition to an entrepreneurial economy and that is why entrepreneurial fever is kicking into higher gear.

Let me leave you with this challenge … unless you are a Blue Blood, a Trust-Funder, or have won the lottery, we all need to work; so learn how to live life on your own terms so you can get up every morning doing what you love.

On this Labor Day weekend, I invite you to learn a completely different approach to making money.  Think about how you want to work, how you want to spend your time, and how you want to Labor for your rewards.  Become an entrepreneur!  “Entrepreneurship is living a few years of your life like most people won’t so that you can spend the rest of your life like most people can’t.”   Anonymous.
